ManyChat is the best-known tool for Instagram comment-to-DM campaigns. For creators who live in their DMs, it does that job well.

Shopify merchants usually start looking for two reasons. ManyChat now bills for every person who messages you in a month. And it works inside social apps, while many shopper questions start on your store.

So the first question is not which tool is cheaper. It is where your shoppers ask. Below are six Shopify-ready options, sorted by that question.

Why Shopify merchants look for a ManyChat alternative

ManyChat changed how it bills on March 2, 2026. Its help center says plans now include a set number of Active Contacts per month. A contact counts if they send or receive a message through an automation, ManyChat AI, a broadcast or Live Chat in its Inbox.

That last part surprises store owners. A shopper who DMs you a sizing question counts, even if no automation ever ran. Above your limit, ManyChat charges for each extra contact, unless you set an overage cap in your billing settings.

ManyChat has no app on the Shopify App Store, so there are no Shopify reviews to read. We read the 200 most recent ManyChat reviews on Trustpilot on October 12, 2026. Trustpilot notes that ManyChat has not invited reviews recently, so unhappy users are likely over-represented.

Even so, the pattern is clear. Reviews posted since March 2, 2026 average 1.43 stars, against 2.82 in the 12 months before.

We read each of the 52 one- and two-star reviews posted since the change. Of those, 24 are about charges, overages or refunds, and 9 name the active contact rule. Three complaints repeat:

• Organic DMs count. A June 2026 reviewer warned about how contacts are counted. It covers "organic conversations that land in the connected inbox, not just ones an automation started."
• Bills that grow with your audience. Another June 2026 reviewer used one comment-to-DM automation: "I signed up for $14 per month. My most recent bill was $85."
• Hard to predict. A July 2026 reviewer put it simply: "You never know how much you will pay."

Happy users still praise the core tool. A September 2026 reviewer wrote that "the Comment to DM tool is great", then added "Overpriced!"

What a ManyChat alternative costs for the same store

List prices hide the real question. So we priced one store under every tool, using each vendor's monthly list price on October 12, 2026.

The store gets 300 people messaging it a month, and each person has one conversation. AI handles 200 of those on its own, and one teammate takes the other 100. The catalog has fewer than 500 products.

Two notes keep this fair. First, ManyChat is cheap at this size. Without AI, the store fits Essential at $17 plus 50 extra contacts at $0.10, so $22.

The ManyChat bill climbs when a viral post brings thousands of new people into your DMs. Each of them counts as an active contact that month.

Second, the tools do not do the same job. The DM tools reply inside Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp, and the storefront tools reply to people on your product pages. Compare prices within the group that matches where your shoppers ask.

ManyChat alternatives that stay in your DMs

If your sales start with a comment or a DM, keep your automation where it is. These three work inside social and messaging apps:

Chatfuel: the closest swap for comment-to-DM

Chatfuel is one of ManyChat's oldest rivals. Its site lists automatic replies to post and Reels comments, WhatsApp bulk campaigns and selling inside the chat. Its Shopify app focuses on WhatsApp cart recovery with an AI agent.

Here is where it fits:

• Best for: stores that run comment-to-DM and WhatsApp campaigns and want a like-for-like move.
• Not a fit if: you want chat on your storefront for shoppers who are already browsing.
• Pricing: the Shopify listing shows Business at $59 a month with 1,000 conversations, then $0.04 per extra conversation. Chatfuel's own site shows Business at $18 a month billed yearly, with $20 of AI credits a month.
• Rating: no reviews yet on the Shopify App Store.
• The catch: the two price pages do not match, so confirm which plan you will be billed for before you install.

IG Facebook & Instagram Shop: Shopify products inside Instagram DMs

This app from DolphinSuite publishes your Shopify products to Instagram Direct and Messenger. Its AI recommends products in the chat, and an inbox lets you take over.

Here is where it fits:

• Best for: small stores whose shoppers ask about products in Instagram DMs.
• Not a fit if: you need comment triggers, broadcasts or WhatsApp.
• Pricing: Free includes 30 AI messages a month. Starter is $14.99 for 700, Growth $26.99 for 2,000 and Business $49.99 for 5,000, on its Shopify App Store listing.
• Rating: 4.9 from 388 reviews, with 96% at five stars. It launched in June 2025, so the record is short.
• The catch: it bills per AI message, not per conversation, so a long chat uses several.

SleekFlow: WhatsApp-first selling for larger teams

SleekFlow connects your Shopify store to WhatsApp and other messaging channels. It shares products and payment links in the chat, and it sends order confirmations and shipping updates on WhatsApp.

Here is where it fits:

• Best for: teams of three or more that sell and support customers over WhatsApp.
• Not a fit if: you are a small store, since the entry plan is $199 a month.
• Pricing: Pro AI is $199 a month for 2,000 monthly active contacts and 3 users. Premium AI is $399 for 12,000, on its Shopify listing. SleekFlow's site shows prices by region.
• Rating: 4.1 from 4 reviews, too few to judge.
• The catch: it bills per active contact, like ManyChat, so a growing audience still raises the bill.

ManyChat alternatives that answer on your storefront

If most questions come from people already on your product pages, put the chat there. These three work on your Shopify store:

• Not a fit if: you need automation inside Instagram or WhatsApp. Its listing describes a storefront agent.
• Pricing: free on its Shopify App Store listing.
• Rating: 4.6 from 5,810 reviews.
• The catch: the agent personalizes replies with Shop preferences and purchase history only when the buyer signs in with Shop.
